Feature Play: Dead of Summer
Alright Once Upon a Time tv series fans, listen up. Are you starving for something new in-between the latest episodes of your favorite show? Would you like to see what else is up the creator’s sleeves when given a different universe to play around in? Well let us introduce you to the up and coming Freeform show Dead of Summer.
The creators behind Once Upon a Time, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, are teaming up with the writer from the same show, Ian Goldberg, for another deadly tinge, supernatural meets real world narrative. Oh and don’t forget the element of horror.
The story of the series will take place in the late 80’s. The location will be the Midwestern landscape. School is out and everyone is at Camp Stillwater. The characters will be in their teen years so you’re going to encounter a lot of the typical coming of age tropes, like first loves, kisses, feelings, heartbreak, etc.
But fans of the creators will know to expect more than just the typical teen drama. There’s surely to be spins and sharp turns galore. The fantastical/horror elements come from the mysteries that will unravel as the narrative explores some of its original mythology.
This will be the Once Upon a Time team’s first foray into horror and there will surely be some interesting elements we can’t wait to see.
The pilot for the new show will air on June 28th. Just in time for summer.
