Weekly Manga Minute #14
We are ready to bring in the New Year and can’t wait to see what new manga will be revealed. Luckily with this week’s Manga Minute we do have a sneak peak of a few things the New Year has waiting for us! Read below for more!
New Years comes early for fans of Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san (“Takagi-san is Good at Pranks”), a school comedy manga by Souichirou Yamamoto about a young girl who loves to play pranks on her male classmate who happens to find himself a target of her tricker.
The series is celebrating 4 collected volumes and over 1 million copies in circulation with artwork to help warm the bodies of fans as they do the inevitable countdown for the New Years. The new artwork has the series protagonist Takagi-San shown in a formal kimono with a word bubble that says: “Happy New Year! I hope to pull many pranks this year, too.” What a little bugger she is!

Kodansha has a nice announcement for sci-fi manga fans out there. They’ve got an interesting manga deal going on till January 11th.
The promo describes:
“Kodansha Comics presents the Science Fiction Manga by Nihei book bundle in partnership with our good pals at Humble Bundle. Now we are offering $185 worth of digital manga, including legendary manga-ka Tsutomu Nihei’s early mind-benders BLAME! and NOiSE up to his masterpiece, Knights of Sidonia. The cost of the bundle? You can pay what you want!
Name your price. Together, the books in this bundle usually cost as much as $185. At Humble Bundle, though, you choose the price!”
This is a great opportunity to get yourself some of Nihei’s work. His works have helped shape the genre into something very odd and cerebral and we mean odd in the most beautiful way! This special bundle ends WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 10:59 A.M. PACIFIC TIME.
Additionally, the works are able to go anywhere with you: “These comics are available in multiple formats including CBZ, PDF, and ePub, so they work on your computer, e-readers, iPads, cell phones, and a wide array of mobile devices!”
So don’t miss out on this offer and bring in the New Year through a mind-bending alternate dimension.
Are you a Splatoon fan? Well listen up! Manga and comic book publisher in the North American region has announced that they are further expanding their publishing partnership with Nintendo and this time they are taking on an English version of The Art of Splatoon.
The summary describes Splatoon as:
“The Art of Splatoon is based on Nintendo’s 2015 award-winning game for the Wii U console where players control squid-like characters called Inklings. Inklings have the ability to shift between humanoid and squid form and back again. Inklings shoot their team’s color to claim territory or “splat” opposing players. Ink supply is replenished by swimming through their respective team colors.
Containing an “inkredible” 320 pages of artwork, including 2D and 3D illustrations of characters, maps, concept art, weapon and gear design, storyboards, sketches, hand-drawn comics, and more, The Art of Splatoon is sure to please Inklings and humanoids alike.
Dark Horse will also publish The Legend of Zelda™: Art & Artifacts on February 21, 2017. The Art of Splatoon is slated to hit shelves June 13, 2017.”
This is awesome to hear as Nintendo fans have been undoubtedly dying for more connection to the Japanese aspect of the company and the culture of Nintendo. 2016 found some pretty impressive reveals and it seems like 2017 will give it a run for its money! June is quite the bit of time away but it’s exciting to know that it’s coming! More art is never a bad thing!
