The Night Is Still Young by Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj. The name will either make people smile or cringe. Though it seems like of late she’s become someone that people love to hate.
Minaj’s acclaimed “Pink Print” album saw her going back to her hip-hop roots, with more rapping and less “Starship” type of anthems. Many fans love the hip-hop Minaj, but we also love the pop Minaj and some of us were worried that she would all but abandon her pop side.
That was all quelled with her song “The Night Is Still Young.” The song is a progressive dance pop song, which is a little more subdued then her previous club thumpers.
This song in particular felt like one you listen to either on the way to the club or during that moment in the night in which you’re pumped up but need just a little bit of a breather prior to ramping it back up.
After watching the MV for “The Night Is Still Young” we have to admit that we’re not surprised because even though she is a hip-hop artist, fans like us would be starving for something a little more effervescent and fun.
The lyrics themselves also echo this through their repetitive nature:
“The night is still young/ the night is still young/ the night is still young and so are we.”
The “Night Is Still Young” feeds that desire for something you can just turn on and get lost in without getting too thought provoking.
The song is like Minaj taking a break from her fierce hip-hop persona to give us something a little more fun and to remind us that having fun isn’t a bad thing.
The video consists of Minaj donning her signature pink hair with Barbie-like back up dancers. Their color choices for the outfits are quite vibrant and very reminiscent of her “Starships” phase.
In her typical fashion, she manages to accentuate her curves with revealing clothing which also dons some eye catching gems. It was apparent that she was having fun, and playing dress up for the night.
In another outfit, she wears a light pink bustier, but then swaps to her current style via a tight fitting black leather dress and a long, high tied ponytail.
We found ourselves smiling at her twitchy movements and dance moves, as they reminded us of her earlier music videos which had the crazy version of Minaj coming out and either endearing people or freaking them out.
When we first saw the MV we couldn’t help but smile. Listening to the song and watching the MV is like turning on the A.C. and enjoying the summer sun from a cool, safe distance.
It’s all about loving summer, right? Even if you did it from indoors and with a good book 😛
