Weekly Manga Update

By  |

Two more weeks left of August. It’s a sad time for people who love summer as it comes to an end, but at least we’ve got manga right?! This week, we pick several manga that we think you’ll enjoy on this week’s Manga Update.

1. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vol. 1 by Taiki Kawakami (manga) and Fuse (original concept)

New manga alert! This one looks very promising!

“As players of Monster Hunter and Dungeons & Dragons know, the slime is not exactly the king of the fantasy monsters. So when a 37-year-old Tokyo salaryman dies and wakes up in a world of dragons and magic, he’s a little disappointed to find he’s become a blind, boneless slime monster.

Mikami’s middle age hasn’t gone as he planned: He never found a girlfriend, he got stuck in a dead-end job, and he was abruptly stabbed to death in the street at 37. So when he wakes up in a new world straight out of a fantasy RPG, he’s disappointed but not exactly surprised to find that he’s not a knight or a wizard but a blind slime demon. But there are chances for even a slime to become a hero …”

1.Chihayafuru, Volume 4 by Yuki Suetsugu

The tournament continues to heat up in this fourth volume of the Chihayafuru manga series!

“The Mizusawa High Karuta Club fights through heated team matches in their pursuit of a berth in the national tournament, believing in and supporting one another the whole way. Together with her team, Chihaya is able to glimpse Omi Shrine—not in her dreams, but in person at last. What kind of overwhelming emotions could the sight make her feel? Meanwhile, Arata also steps foot on the grounds of Omi Shrine, but he carries a burden that he has yet to share with anyone. Watch as these closest of friends are driven by their passion all the way to Omi Shrine in volume 4 of Chihayafuru!”

3.Real Girl, Volume 2 by Mao Nanami

Real Girl has shown itself to be quite the delight with its first entry. We have a lot of confidence that the second one will be just as interesting!

“18-year-old Hikari Tsutsui, a boy who loves the 2-D world, suddenly finds himself with a living, breathing, super-cute girlfriend named Iroha, and their relationship is going surprisingly well! “Is it really okay for someone like me who has only one friend to be this happy?!” he wonders. He gets jealous for the first time seeing Iroha with another guy, and he even makes a “female friend” … Tsuttsun feels like something bad is going to happen … and his bad feeling turns out to be right! The seeming social pariah of his generation, Tsuttsun’s endearing personality is making him a rising star!!”

4.What Did You Eat Yesterday? Volume 12 by Fumi Yoshinaga

For those looking for a little yaoi/slice of life, look no further than the twelfth volume of the manga series What Did You Eat Yesterday?

“Shiro Kakei, lawyer by day and gourmand by night, lives with his boyfriend, Kenji Yabuki, an out-going salon stylist. While the pair navigate the personal and professional minefields of modern gay life, Kenji serves as enthusiastic taste-tester for Shiro’s wide and varied made-from-scratch meals.”
